Our Statement of Purpose and Philosophy
It is imperative that men and women who have been called by God into full-time Christian service recognize the importance of theological training as they meet the challenges of the world. Using all the advantages and resources at their disposal will equip them to minister in an effective way as they serve God. The administration of North Georiga Baptist Theological Seminary believes that God's Word is emphatic when He says, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15, NASB). It is the purpose of NGBTS to train students in and for evangelical Christian ministry. Race, class, and nationality offer no barrier to any student who desires to receive training. Furthermore, students from various evangelical denominations may enjoy academic freedom and Christian fellowship.
NGBTS is committed to the doctrinal beliefs of the Southern Baptist churches, missions, and evangelic programs. However, the right of each student to attend or to affiliate with another evangelical denomination of his or her choice under God is respected. NGBTS is affiliated with and cooperates in ministry
with Union Baptist Church, Inc. in Hull, Georgia. The church

All degrees offered by NGBTS whether granted or conferred, are of an ecclesiastical nature and are in the restricted area of religion, whether educational or ministerial. NGBTS offers degree programs ranging from Associate through Doctorate.
It is the desire of NGBTS to serve the Lord while serving you in His name. The administration of NGBTS asks for your prayers and support as we seek to carry out the Great Commission given by Christ in Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8 as we disciple others to minister in His name.

Dr. Billy J. Owensby, Chancellor
Dr. Billy J. Owensby is a native of Commerce, Georgia. He is married to Deborah (Poole) Owensby. They have two grown
children, Jeremy and Ryan who are both married. Dr. Owensby
and his wife Deborah have six grand-children.
Currently Dr. Owensby is the pastor of Union Baptist Church in Hull, Georgia. He has pastored other churches in Louisiana and Northeast Georgia. He is the founder of NGBTS and S.T.E.P. Ministry (Spiritually Training & Equipping People). He holds an
ADiv Degree and a BGS Degree from New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary, a Master Degree from Bethany Bible College, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Louisiana Baptist University and Theological Seminary.
